The Ecuador train invites you to take an unforgetable trip that goes through the province of Imbabura on rails.  This 85 year old route has been restored to its original state.  It is an excellent opportunity to see and live the historic Ecuadorian testament, a retrospective trip for some and a testimonial for new generations.

We have combinations of train and bus service in order to optimize your time so you can better enjoy this unique experience.

About the Liberty Train               

An electric-diesel locomotive with 4 first class coaches and 1 standard coach with capacity for a total of 152 passengers that will take you through 57 kms. of  landscapes, culture and history.

We offer the following options:

1: Train + Bus

TRIP COST PER PERSON

Adults: $50.40

Children and senoir citizens: $39.18

Prices include 12% IVA (taxes)

TRANSPORTATION:  steam engine train

DAYS OF OPERATION:  Saturday, Sunday and holidays

GUIDES: Guides speak both English and Spanish

LENGTH OF TRAVEL: 8 hours and 15 minutes

ROUTE LENGTH: 57 km.

CAPACITY: 29 spaces

 

ITINERARY

07:30    Check in and embark at the Otavalo station.

08:00    Train leaves for San Roque.

08:25    Visit the San Roque station, hear history of the community and its involvement with the train.  Traditional snack of  flour tortillas and aromatic tea or coffee.

08:45    Train leaves for Andrade Marín.

08:55    Arrive at the Andrade Marín station, a guided visit to the recently restored textile museum “Fábrica Imbabura”, a testimony to the industrial revolution in Ecuador. You will have 10 minutes to use the facilities and visit the Train Cafe (purchases are the guests responsibility).

09:45    Train leaves for Ibarra.

10:25    Arrive at the Ibarra station, additional passengers embark, time is available to use the facilities.

10:40    Train leaves for Salinas.

11:40    Arrive at the Hoja Blanca station. Visit the interpretive center of Yachay, visit the Train Cafe (purchases are the guests responsibility).

12:00    Train leaves for the Salinas parish of Ibarra.

12:30    Arrive at Salinas, disembark and enjoy a community reception.

12:40    Cultural afro-ecuadorian dance presentation, traditional bomba dance, visit the Train Cafe (purchases are the guests responsibility).

01:00    Visit the artisan plaza, purchase souvenirs.

01:10    A short guided walk in the town of Salinas to a restaurant.

01:25    Lunch in Salinas.

02:25    Visit the Sal Museum or the Ethnography Hall of Salinas.  

03:00    Embark on a tourist autobus, leave for Otavalo.

03:15    Arrive at the Otavalo station finalizing the tour.

 

WHAT TO BRING:  Personal identification, sunscreen, insect repellant, cool weather clothing, comfortable shoes, camera and cash.

WHAT NOT TO BRING:  Alcoholic beverages and prohibited substances.

 

THE TOUR INCLUDES

09:45    Check in and embark at the Otavalo station

10:15    Leave in autobus via the Panamericana for Andrade Marín.

10:45    Arrive at Andrade Marín, guided visit at the recently restored textile museum “Fábrica Imbabura”, a testimony to the industrial revolution in Ecuador.   You will have time to visit the Train Cafe (purchases are the guests responsibility) and time to visit the facilities.

11:35    Leave on the North Panamericana route.

12:10    Lunch in a restaurant next to the Yahuarcocha lake.

01:10    Leave in autobus for Salinas.

01:45    Arrive at Salinas, disembark and community reception.

01:50    Cultural afro-ecuadorian dance presentation, traditional bomba dance. Time to visit the Train Cafe (purchases are the guests responsibility).

02:10   Visit the artisan plaza, purchase souvenirs.

02:25    Embark on the train.

02:40    Leave on the train in the direction of San Antonio of Ibarra.

04:05    Arrive at the Ibarra station. At this station passengers will be disembarking, immediately following the train will leave for San Antonio of Ibarra.

04:30    Arrive at the San Antonio station. Guided visit of the known artist workshops of sculpture and painting.

05:10    Leave in the train for Otavalo.  Traditional snack that includes chocho tortillas.

05:55    Arrive at the Otavalo station, finalizing the tour.
